What works are Protected by Copyright? Which works aren't?


Are Protected
Copyright protects "origanal works of authorship”.

Copyright includes:
-Literary works
*novels, stories, books, pamphlets, manuscripts, poetical works and other writings
*plays, dramas, stage directions, film scenarios, broadcasting scripts, choreographic works and pantomimes

*treatises, histories, biographies, essays and articles
*encyclopaedias, dictionaries and other works of reference
*letters, reports and memoranda
*lectures, addresses, sermons and other works of the same nature
*tables or compilations, whether or not expressed in words, figures or symbols and whether or not in a visible form
*computer program
-Musical works
-Artistic works
*a graphic work, photograph, sculpture or collage, irrespective of artistic quality;
*a work of architecture being a building or a model for a building
*a work of artistic craftsmanship
-Sound recordings
-Architectural works
-Pantomimes and choreographic works

Are not Protected
-A person may not claim copyright to something they have not yet put into a definite form.
-Works entirely of information that is common and has no ownership
-Others ideas are not protected by copyright
